Rachel Stokes, artist and positive thinker, first became interested in glass as a young girl sitting in her father's church basking in the colored light of the stained glass windows.
For years, while raising her two children, Rachel toyed with the idea of taking a stained glass class and finally did so in 2003, when she received a gift certificate to take a class at a local glass studio. Her work in stained glass soon took a turn leading her to work in mosaic and fused glass, often mixing the two media.
She specializes in three dimensional art; most recently working on an exhibit of mosaic musical instruments. She is an award winning artist whose artwork has been accepted into many juried shows.
Rachel has created commissioned artwork in fused, mosaic and mixed media for clients across the U.S. Often incorporating painting into her mosaic artistry. She is now also experimenting with wood working.
Rachel teaches mosaics, mixed media and motivational workshops from her home studio in Pasadena, TX. She has also been a visiting artist, teaching in many studios from Galveston to Houston, TX.
She is a member of both SAMA and MOSAICO.
Early in 2008, Rachel took a leap of faith and quit her day job to pursue her life's work full-time. Although she resides in Pasadena, Texas, she finds herself spending more and more time in a little bungalow of inspiration on Galveston Island.
